  1. 1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a full rolling boil.
  2. 2. Take the desired quantity of spaghetti and hold the bundle upright in one hand. Dip the ends into the boiling salted water. As the submerged portion softens, approximately 1-2 minutes, gently coil the spaghetti down into the pot, pressing it under the water without breaking it. Continue until the full length is submerged.
  3. 3. Cook the spaghetti at a steady boil, stirring occasionally, for 8-12 minutes, until the strands are tender throughout but still offer slight resistance when bitten (al dente). Taste a strand to confirm: it should show no white, chalky center when broken.
  4. 4. Drain well and serve immediately with tomato sauce.
