1. Heat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a wire fish rack and set it inside a roasting pan or dripping pan (a 13 × 9 in / 33 × 23 cm pan is appropriate).
2. Season both sides of the two halibut slices with salt and black pepper. Brush each slice generously with melted butter on all exposed surfaces.
3. Lay the buttered halibut slices on the greased fish rack inside the prepared pan. Place the pan in the preheated oven.
4. Bake for 12–15 minutes, until the fish is opaque throughout, flakes easily when tested with a fork at the thickest point, and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center reads 145°F (63°C).
5. Transfer the halibut slices to a warmed serving platter. Pour the prepared Welsh Rarebit sauce over the fish and serve immediately.
