2. Pour the boiling water into the molasses and stir to combine.

4. Add the dry ingredients to the molasses mixture and stir to combine, then add the melted butter. Beat vigorously until a smooth, uniform batter forms with no dry streaks, approximately 1 minute.
5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 23-27 minutes, until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean, the edges have pulled slightly from the sides of the pan, and the top springs back when lightly pressed.
6. Allow to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before cutting. Serve warm or at room temperature.
