  1. 1. Heat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. 2. Split the common crackers in half along their natural seam.
  3. 3. Using a small knife or offset spatula, spread each cracker half thinly with softened butter, using approximately 1/4 teaspoon (about 1 g) of butter per half.
  4. 4. Arrange the buttered crackers in a single layer on an ungreased baking sheet, 12 x 17 inches (30 x 43 cm) or similar rimmed sheet pan.
  5. 5. Bake until the crackers are delicately browned, approximately 8 to 12 minutes. Watch closely: the crackers are done when their edges are golden and they feel dry and crisp to the touch. They will continue to crisp as they cool.
